Stedelijk Museum - Amsterdam (Holland)
In May 2007 the renovation of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam began. In addition to the renovation, a new part will be built. This new building will include a cinema, an auditorium, exhibition space and a study room. A giant white canopy, by the media renamed as 'bathtub', is the new landmark of the museum.
Bartels is responsible for the cofferdam of the new building, which measures 95 by 55 meters and 14 meters deep. A responsible job, as the cofferdam had to be dug next to the existing museum from 1895. The dam walls of the cofferdam are alinged with screen frames, because the use of grouted anchors was not possible. Besides executing the design of the dam walls and screen frames, Bartels also was responsible for the calculations of the underwater concrete, with corresponding tensile anchors. Naturally, we also executed the construction management.
